ChatShelf — Privacy Policy

The short version

ChatShelf does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any data. Everything the extension saves lives locally on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no external servers.

What ChatShelf stores (locally only)

• The names, colors and structure of the folders you create
• The titles and IDs of conversations you assign to folders
• Interface preferences (e.g. which folders are collapsed)

This data is stored using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API on your own computer. It never leaves your device. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.

Backups

When you press "Backup", ChatShelf generates a JSON file and saves it to your device through your browser's normal download mechanism. The file is created locally and is never uploaded anywhere.

What ChatShelf can access, and why

• chatgpt.com / claude.ai pages — required to display the organizer panel next to your conversations and to read conversation titles from the page you are already viewing. ChatShelf does not read, store or transmit the content of your conversations.
• storage — required to save your folder structure locally.
• activeTab — required so the toolbar icon can open and close the panel in the current tab.

Third parties

ChatShelf is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI or Anthropic. The extension contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code.

Changes to this policy

If a future version ever changes how data is handled (for example, an optional paid feature), this page will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described in the extension's changelog.
